SSL Certificates

Require a Secure Socket Layer or SSL certificate to protect your online business and valued customers? SSL Secure Online Store

Here you will find your answers!

What is a SSL Certificate and what does it do?

SSL certificate ensures the security of your website by maintaining SSL protocol that protects information transmitted between the web server and the user. By processing transactions securely, SSL protocol prevents unwanted visitors from intercepting valued information. SSL certificate is an encrypted communication between the web-page and the user that exists in the web server as well as web browsers like Netscape and Internet Explorer. SSL certificate is mainly uploaded to a particular location on the web server, thus it can also be termed as server certificate. Any business person going online would require server certificate to initiate an SSL protocol session. These certificates are issued by the security agencies like VeriSign and GeoTrust.

How does a Server Certificate work?

A Server certificate works through a method called encryption. The mathematical procedure of encoding and decoding information is known as encryption. During data transmission, the communication is encrypted in such a way that only the intended recipient can decode it. The browser on the client’s side requests a secure domain from the web server via https. If the server has the SSL certificate or the SSL connection, the browser and the server exchange information, and establish an encryption method and a unique session key. They negotiate their common encryption strength and exchange the corresponding encryption keys. Once the browser confirms that it recognizes the issuer of the server certificate, a new secure session starts.

The number of bits – 40-bit, 56-bit, 128-bit and 256-bit – determines the size of the key. The larger key has more possible encryption combinations that can be changed frequently. The specific protocol judges the aspects of encryption strength. Server certificate enables 128- bit and 256-bit encryption for over 99.9% of internet users. The next https session will have another session key.

Why does the client need a unique IP Address for the domain to be secure?

A website with an SSL certificate must have a unique IP address on the web host server as an SSL or a server certificate is linked only to an IP address and is bound to a qualified domain name, no matter which domain the client attempts to access.

Many of the free or budget web hosting services does not provide you with your own unique IP address. In that situation you will need to move your SSL certificate from one web host to another to get a separate IP address for your website which may be at extra cost.

What browser programs are compatible with QuickSSL, a cost-effective solution for you?

You can opt for two types of solutions for getting your SSL certificate, RapidSSL and QuickSSL. Both of which have the following features in common:

  • Up to 256-bit encryption
  • Compatible with 99%+ of web browsers
  • Fully-owned roots
  • Issued in 10 minutes
  • Multi-year option

The QuickSSL option, in addition to the above-mentioned features, will give you a higher level of insurance. The QuickSSL is the most convenient and cost-effective solution for the server certificate if you need to process a secure online transaction.

QuickSSL is compatible with the browsers like MS Internet Explorer 5.01 and higher, Netscape /AOL web browsers 4.51 and higher and Opera 7.
